Obituary of Chet Hugo

Chet Hugo was pronounced missing never to return today, October 3rd 1936. Chet was a brave soul and rescuers gave up the search after trailing Chet's last known Peruvian whereabouts. Chet was said to have descended into an unexplored cave system and now, weeks later has yet to return. English officials have pronounced him essentially gone forever.

Chet was born to Francis and Gerny Hugo on March 31st 1902 in Perth-shire, Scotland. Francis and Gerna Hugo were German immigrants to Scotland in 1890. Chet had no siblings. Chet grew up working on the farm and raising sheep. Chet always held a fascination for rocks and adventure. And became a geologist in 1922. His work was so acclaimed he won the European Geologist Union's Medal and the title of "Master Spelunker". He specialized in dangerous underground field assignments which would eventually become his downfall.

Chet is survived by a slew of women worldwide all claiming to have had a child by Chet, however none of these claims can be proven. Chet also has a surviving uncle, Gus Hugo, still living in Germany.

All of England is ravaged by the loss of this national icon and there will be a candle-light memorial service in Perth-shire square this Sunday, October 4th. Many will be traveling from across the isles to pay their respects to this lost hero.

  1. 1. Is the name Gerny or Gerna? It's spelled both ways in the second paragraph.
    2. This doesn't really sound like an obituary. It sounds like a story about someone who died.

  2. I like the background and the scenario. The diction of "gone forever" and "missing never to return" could be replaced by more official language as the rest of the tone in the piece is mainly factual. Perhaps missing person declared dead, as it does happen.

  3. Sounds like he accomplished a lot. It is sad to see such a hero gone. Any plans on a memorial or statue for him?

  4. I agree with Amanda. Sounds like a story. Otherwise, I like the name... other than the Hugo part. I feel like I have heard that before about a hundred times.
